Just a couple hours from Gibraltar, The Hoopoe Yurt Hotel in Cortes de la Frontera (Andalucia Spain) provides an opportunity to spend time in a cork forest! Located on three hectares containing cork trees and olive groves, staying in a yurt is a perfect way to connect with nature. Fortunately, all yurts have private bathrooms so you don't need to forgo too many of the usual luxuries.

In cooperation with Korek Jelinek CZ, a prototype of an electric car was created using cork material for the seat pads, dashboard, and door interior. Three teams of Czech engineers participated in a competition - ElectricMotion.cz -  which was tasked with developing a small, simple, attractive, and ecological electric car for use in cities. The design team focused on using recycled and ecological materials.

The newly designed electric car received a very positive response. The team continues to work on the car with the intention of putting it into production.

How plastic ends up inside us

This video shows how the ocean is filled with micro particles of plastic. "The whole food chain, from filtering invertebrates to marine mammals are eating plastic and /or other animals who have plastic in them. This means that we are."

How can you make a difference? Start with the little things. Think about your plastic consumption as you go about your day. For example (and something near-and-dear to my heart) next time you purchase a bottle of wine, consider if you are okay with a plastic cork or aluminum screwcap (with a plastic liner), or if you'd prefer a natural, renewable, and sustainable real cork.

Thinking about ecology when making everyday decisions is not just good for the planet, but may save your life.
